Besides historical fiction, I think Biblical fiction is my next favorite genre. Which would technically fall in the historical category as well!
Tessa Afshar is a fantastic author. She and Connilyn Cossette are, by far, my favorite writers in this genre and since I fell in love with their books, I basically refuse to read any other authors that write Biblical fiction.
Tessa's stories are mostly based on the New Testament, but one of my favorites is, In the Field of Grace, which is based on the story of Ruth.
I just finished Tessa's newest book, The Lost Prince, and it was so good. The story is based on a time in the Bible that I did not know about.
As with most Biblical fiction, there is some romance woven throughout the stories.
Tessa doesn't go quite as deep into Scripture and the events surrounding her stories as Connilyn Cossette does, but her books are still fun to read and bring so much of the Biblical culture to life.
