"A child disappears, a foster mom faces an impossible choice, a baby's future hangs in the balance."
I was planning on sharing this book anyway, but in light of #nationalfostercaremonth it fits perfectly.
I don't know that I've read a book that has ever made me cry like this one has.
This is currently my all-time favorite true story book, not because it is a wonderful story with a fairytale ending, but because it is a heart-wrenching story with a God ending.
The author, Debra Moerke, and her husband were foster parents to over 140 children across a span of sixteen years.
There are some very hard details portrayed in the book, but whether you have a heart for foster care and adoption or not, this book is an amazing read for anyone. Debra's courage to say yes to anything God asked of her is a testimony and encouragement to me.
Life here on earth is not easy and never will be, however life with Christ is always worth it, and Debra's life portrays that promise.
Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ (If I could give this 1,000 stars I would!)
☆ star = highly disliked & probably didn't finish.
☆☆ stars = wouldn't recommend.
☆☆☆ stars = mostly good but may have some concerns.
☆☆☆☆stars = very good.
☆☆☆☆☆ stars = reserved for my absolute favorite books.
Valuable Lessons: This story gives an honest look at what foster care can look like, both the hard and the good. The importance of always saying "yes" to God.
Things to Consider: There are some heavy aspects to this story. Obviously, as noted in the title, there are descriptions of murder. It is not a calculated murder, but it is still discussed in the story in some detail. While it is very hard to read and makes me cry every time, it is part of this very real story of God's forgiveness and grace.
