"All right, then. I'll have a swell excuse when the teacher asks me why I haven't finished my homework. I'll say my mother took up all my time with dusting." Henny tossed her blonde curls defiantly. She slammed the front-room door as she went in to perform her job.

Mama knew it would be a job badly done. She sighed. She was tired of the girls forever trying to avoid doing this chore. She would have to think of something. She got out her sewing basket and began rummaging through it, picking out a dozen colored buttons, humming softly to herself."

Did you grow up reading the "All-of-a-kind Family" books?

I didn't and I feel like I missed out! But now reading them as a mom, is almost just as fun. I have so many problem-solving ideas to apply to our own household.

I love the family dynamics portrayed in these stories. They are real: sibling bickering, tired parents, and yet, love, lots of family love.

It was also interesting to hear about some of the Jewish traditions that are sprinkled throughout the stories, and because I really enjoy this time period, the mentions of how the World War impacted them.

These stories are so sweet (there are two more books not pictured) and I highly recommend them as a great family read-aloud!

Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆

☆ star = highly disliked & probably didn't finish.

☆☆ stars = wouldn't recommend.

☆☆☆ stars = mostly good but may have some concerns.

☆☆☆☆stars = very good.

☆☆☆☆☆ stars = reserved for my absolute favorite books.

Recommended Ages: 7-11 years

Valuable Lessons: The chapters are full of messages about helping others even when it means sacrificing your own needs, choosing between right and wrong, honesty, hard work, diligence and so much more!

Questionable Content: There are a few light swear words sprinkled throughout. The oldest daughter starts dating and has a boyfriend - there is nothing questionable, in my opinion, the author keeps the relationship details light and safe within boundaries.
